OFFERING
CAR ACCIDENT INJURY HELP IN SEATTLE, WA.
Despite our best efforts, car crashes happen all too regularly, especially with our wet Seattle streets! Car wrecks cause all kinds of injuries, even in low speed, low damage accidents. While pain can be present immediately, as adrenaline begins to wear off, you are likely to notice pain develop in the hours and days following a car crash.
WHAT SHOULD YOU DO AFTER AN AUTO ACCIDENT?

Car accidents disrupt your life in a major way. Navigating insurance claims and extra appointments on top of your busy life is difficult, especially when you are in pain. Here are a few pointers to keep in mind:
1. Seek treatment from a car crash specialist chiropractor early. While pain medication and muscle relaxors prescribed by your medical doctor or urgent care provider can mask symptoms temporarily, there is good reason why most people with auto injuries seek chiropractic care. You have a 3 month, post crash window to recover as much as possible. While progresss is possible beyond this time-frame, it is more difficult to achieve.
2. Don’t settle! Auto insurane companies would love nothing more than to shoe horn you into a quick settlement before you know the extent of your injuries or the impact they will have on your life. Don’t take the bait.
3. Open a PIP claim through your own insurance company. PIP stands for Personal Injury Protection and is a no-fault benefit that covers medical bills for 3 years as well as a portion of lost income. It is separate from the claim you may have opened covering damage to your car. Your first call should be to your own insurance company to open a PIP claim, even if the other driver is at fault. Don’t worry, your monthly insurance bill cannot be raised by using PIP! There are no co-pays or deductibles to worry about, and the claim stays open for 3 years if you need it.
4. Keep moving. Fortunately, most health care providers now understand recommending bed rest and immobility after a car crash is a bad idea. Start with testing how far you can move your neck and spine in each plane of motion. Find the degree of movement when pain starts, then back off a degree or two and begin repetitive movements in the pain free range. Repeat this multiple times per day in all directions. Frequent short walks is also a good idea for most kinds of back pain.

Neck pain, back pain, shoulder pain, headaches, mental fog and fatigue
Are all commonly reported after car accidents. Sudden, unexpected impact causes your neck to momentarily form an unnatural “S” curve before it flies back into the headrest (hopefully it’s positioned properly!) and then “whips” forward, ripping and tearing soft tissue all along the way. The spinal discs, joint capsules, muscles, tendons and ligaments that hold your spine together are overwhelmed by this sudden stress and tears. The collection of symptoms caused by this damaged tissue is known as “whiplash”. Additionally, your brain bounces around in your skull causing bruising and shearing blood vessels that can result in concussion, or an even worse traumatic brain injury.

CAR ACCIDENT INJURY CARE
Unfortunately, traditional medical care has not been particularly successful treating these types of injuries. While pain medications sometimes help mask symptoms temporarily, they have negative side effects and can cause powerful addiction after just a couple weeks. The old recommendation of cervical collars and bed-rest allows scar tissue to settle in. Scar tissue decreases spinal mobility and function laying the foundation for chronic neck and back pain. Unfortunately, 50% of people with pain after a car crash will continue to report moderate to severe pain 10 or more years after the accident.
